Self Help Graphics and Art
Self Help Graphics and Art is a rebranding project for a community arts center in East Los Angeles. The new identity reflects the value, mission, and history of the center, which grew from the cultural identity and political empowerment of Chicana, Chicano, and Latinx artists. The grid structure of Aztec and Maya hieroglyphs inspired a custom display typeface and logotype. The logotype was laser cut on MDF wood and letterpress printed to add texture. Posters were screen printed to honor the printmaking history of the center.
Self Help Graphics and Art Rebranding by David Jimenez was highlighted as an exceptional representation of communication design by the A' Design Awards. Self Help Graphics and Art Rebranding was awarded the Bronze A' Design Award in Graphics, Illustration and Visual Communication Design in 2021. The A' Graphics, Illustration and Visual Communication Design Award is a highly prestigious international design accolade which celebrates exceptional design of logos, posters, infographics, brochures, packaging designs, business cards, book covers, billboards and more.
