Interview with Jeffrey Day : Frank Scott: What is the main principle, idea and inspiration behind your design?. Jeffrey Day : To create visual tension and to animate static furnishings. .Frank Scott: What has been your main focus in designing this work? Especially what did you want to achieve?. Jeffrey Day : To allow people to interact with the made world a bit differently. .Frank Scott: What are your future plans for this award winning design?. Jeffrey Day : My plans are to show the design at a few furniture shows and to produce and offer them to the public. .Frank Scott: How long did it take you to design this particular concept?. Jeffrey Day : From initial sketches to the final version for CNC machining it was about 60 days. .Frank Scott: Why did you design this particular concept? Was this design commissioned or did you decide to pursuit an inspiration?. Jeffrey Day : It was inspiration 100%. I really reacted to fluidity of rain drops onto a still body of water. .Frank Scott: Is your design being produced or used by another company, or do you plan to sell or lease the production rights or do you intent to produce your work yourself?. Jeffrey Day : I intend to produce and sell this design under the Day-Studios brand. .Frank Scott: What made you design this particular type of work?. Jeffrey Day : I wanted to show people how I process the world we live in. I hope they enjoy it! .Frank Scott: Where there any other designs and/or designers that helped the influence the design of your work?. Jeffrey Day : We all stand on the shoulders of giants... Years of training, designing, engineering all come into play. I would say all designers and designs influenced me. .Frank Scott: Who is the target customer for his design?. Jeffrey Day : Contemporary design lovers of all walks of life that enjoy unique pieces of furniture. .Frank Scott: What sets this design apart from other similar or resembling concepts?. Jeffrey Day : What sets this design apart would have to be the "drops" placed onto the top surface. .Frank Scott: How did you come up with the name for this design? What does it mean?. Jeffrey Day : The main feature of this design are the "drops"... .Frank Scott: Which design tools did you use when you were working on this project?. Jeffrey Day : Solid Works and Adobe Creative Suite as well good old fashioned pencil and paper. .Frank Scott: What is the most unique aspect of your design?. Jeffrey Day : The suspended movement is the driving aspect of this piece. .Frank Scott: Who did you collaborate with for this design? Did you work with people with technical / specialized skills?. Jeffrey Day : Technology played a huge part of this design, from concept refinement to finished product output. .Frank Scott: Is your design influenced by data or analytical research in any way? Jeffrey Day : Trying to create visual tension on the base of the product. It is very complex to try to get 16 pieces to come together to make the base... .Frank Scott: How did you decide to submit your design to an international design competition?. Jeffrey Day : I honestly feel it is a compelling design that others would also find interesting. .Frank Scott: What did you learn or how did you improve yourself during the designing of this work?. Jeffrey Day : Trial and error pays off I the long run. .
